Whether you're heading off campus for a networking event or to hang out with friends, Beijing's dense public transportation system can serve as an efficient alternative to taxis. The city's clean, safe subways carry some four million riders a day over eight subway lines – three of which just opened in 2008, in time for the Olympics. Construction continues apace, with plans for the subway network to more than double in size by 2015.
