China from the Inside
A week-long learning experience for EMBA students and executives.
At CKGSB, we work with Western EMBA and Executive Education programs to bring their students and clients to China to explore China from the inside.
Our week-long programs provide:
- A first-hand view of China's business context and culture.
- Insight into the world's fastest-growing market.
- Focus on global strategy, leadership and management.
- A powerful international experience.
Why China?
An international learning experience in China provides insight into the world's fastest growing market. For many managers, the experience helps them understand the role that China plays in their company's global strategy. For others, the value lies in understanding how the Chinese economy, supply chains involving China and competition from the new Chinese dragons can impact business on their side of the world.
"The economic transformation in China is absolutely astonishing. China today is a one-in-a-life opportunity. Although this is my first time to China, I should say that they are new faces in the world economy, but quite competitive."
--University of Virginia, Darden School of Business MBA Participant.
"I was hugely impressed by the extent to which China has progressed from a planned economy to a market economy and the influence Chinese companies are having on a global competition."
--University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) Anderson School of Management EMBA Participant
Why CKGSB?
We know business and we know China. Our professors have world-class research and teaching experience at top universities in North America and Europe, as well as roots in China. They consistently deliver insights that others would be hard pressed to match.
At CKGSB, we pull together research and experience that allows Western managers to better understand the dynamics of competing and collaborating in the fastest growing emerging market. Participants learn how state-owned enterprises, private firms and multinational corporations compete and collaborate in China and how these dynamics can affect their businesses in other parts the world.
The school's alumni network includes elite business leaders from China and beyond. We draw on this network to provide interaction with local managers and visits to the best companies in China. Candid conversations with these managers offer participants inside exposure to how business is conducted in this fast-changing region of the world.
Format
China from the Inside is held over four or five days at our Beijing campus.
Mornings are typically spent in the classroom, with lectures and case analysis led by CKGSB faculty. In the afternoon, participants connect with Chinese managers working in Chinese firms as well as expatriate managers working in MNCs through working luncheons, guest speakers, and company visits. We can also organize an industry analysis project where participants work in small groups to interview managers working in the industry, visit industry sites and share their discoveries with fellow students.
We also offer excursions to historical sites to help participants understand the impact of China's history on today's political, business and social environments. For example, participants may visit the Great Wall with a Chinese historian who explains the Wall's historical significance and implications for today's business and leadership styles. Other groups visit the Confucius Temple with a Chinese philosopher and an expert on Chinese leadership. Together they help the group consider the impact of Confucianism on business and leadership today.
Cultural activities and special dinners can also be arranged.
