Introduction to Management

2 days

  • Objective

    The purpose of this course is to help the students to understand the basic concepts, framework and viewpoints of modern management science. Students will learn about how a company creates value, how it realizes the strategies for organizational and business operations, and how it allocates key resources and what mechanism it adopts. They will also acquire useful analytical tools and skills to effectively lead and manage teams for better performance. This course will involve lectures, case method, group work and interactive activities etc. This course is aimed to analyze the complicated challenges facing senior corporate executives by means of some management theoretical framework. In this course, basic theories and concepts are studied in every case and other real world examples.

Teamwork & Communications

  • Objective

    It is to introduce the theories on effective communications and communication methods so as to build students' communication skills and team work spirit within a team.
  • Ingredients

    This course includes lectures, group discussions, role play and action training. Students will develop integrity among themselves quickly through the group work and experience CKEMBA's family-like inner culture.
 
 
Computer Software & System

4 days

  • Objective

    As a basic course, this part includes two ingredients. The first introduces basic computer knowledge including Software Windows system and the operation of standard business software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Ingredients

    The second introduces fundamental knowledge of the Internet, application of Internet software and Internet facilities of the EMBA teaching center.
 
 
Managerial Economics

  • Objective

    As executives, you may often agonize on some difficult decisions. In this course, our faculty will teach basic concepts of microeconomic to address those problems in order to demonstrate the insight of economic logics and its role in corporate decision-making process. In-depth knowledge of the economic environment will not only lead to the improvement of day-to-day decision-making process, but also help elevate strategic planning to a higher level.
  • Ingredients

    This course starts with elaboration on the classical demand-supply analysis, and then studies the reaction of a business to external environment or external factors, including tariff, laws, and changes in competition situation as well as changing prices of input factors and so on. It will also teach cost of decision-making, to enable students to understand the importance of business reaction to environment changes. Then the course will study the best pricing strategies of a business. Game theory will be taught for students to probe into the decision-making process of a few representative companies. In this way, students will be able develop a better understanding of the performance of the whole industry. Finally, it will discuss the internal structure of a company, for example, the horizontal and vertical integration, design of incentive system, centralization and decentralization, measurement of business performance etc.
 
 
Macro-Economics

  • Objective

    The purpose of this course is to provide some basic theoretical framework and analysis tools, to help students to understand a variety of China's macroeconomic phenomena and their interrelations. Students will learn how to analyze the trend of macro policies and predict future developments of macro economy, so as to enhance their decision-making ability for their own managing functions.
  • Ingredients

    This course will introduce the influence on the national economy of the short-term macroeconomic fluctuations and long-term growth, and the interaction between businesses, consumers and the government. It will touch upon determination of national income, economic swings, inflation, unemployment, fiscal and monetary policies, trade surplus and exchange rate etc. The course will focus on the basic model on which the national economy works and the method that can be applied to analyze China's macro-economic policies and environment.
 
 
Statistics & Decision Making

  • Objective

    llowing for both the students that have been educated on mathematics and statistics and those that haven't, this course is designed to enable the students to grasp the basic methods of statistics analysis. Furthermore, they will be able to use Excel to process data and conduct analysis and interpretation of the models and calculation results.
  • Ingredients

    As a science about figures, statistics is an important tool for decision-making. It is in particular widely used in production management, quality management, market research, sale prediction and analysis. In actuality, it is also a necessary analysis instrument in the daily life. This course is composed of three parts: descriptive statistics, probability theory, and statistics decision as well as statistical inference.
 
 
Legal & Government Environment

  • Objective

    The purpose of this course is to enable students to understand the way in which law, public policies and political behaviors, both in China and in western countries, influence businesses' economic benefits and decision-making behaviors. Apart from introducing the law environment, it tries to provide students with a theoretical framework which will be instrumental to effective decision-making and business management in a particular business environment susceptible to government influence.
  • Ingredients

    This course is divided into four units, of which the first three touch upon corporate law, contract law and bankruptcy law, while the last one discusses cases of debt restructuring. The lessons are mainly taught in the form of lectures which introduce the latest developments on the frontier subjects in this discipline and the most representative knowledge in the same discipline. For example, in the unit of “corporate law”, the course will describe the basic framework of business legal system while allowing for China's practice in its reform initiatives. The ownership system and corporate governance structure will be the focus of research. In the unit of “contract law”, the emphasis is on basic concepts and principles of the contract law system. This knowledge will help students grasp the essence and framework of contract law when they study the law by themselves. In the unit of “bankruptcy law”, the course will talk about the reform of Chinese bankruptcy law and compare it with similar laws in other countries. In this way, students will develop a better understanding of modern bankruptcy law and catch up with the latest developments, and furthermore look into a variety of problems found in the law reform process. Finally, in the unit of case discussion, the course will analyze the “Changchun experience” of business debt restructuring from the economic and legal respective and discuss the prospects for Chinese businesses.
 
 
Organizational Behavior

  • Objective

    The purpose is to help employees understand basic concepts and theories of modern organizational behavior, and the methods to manage organizational behavior. Students will learn from this course in the following respects: how a business should provide incentives to its Background & Foundation Modulesemployees and maximize the benefits of teamwork,; how to become an effective leader; and how to understand the changing internal and external business environment to prepare for and implement the business reform.
  • Ingredients

    This course focuses on four interrelated topics about organizational behavior: employee incentives, team management, leadership and organization change. It includes the following contents: definition of organizational behavior, employee incentives, content and process, team management, leadership development, how to lead and manage organizational reform, and the development of personal career for executives.
